Playing through fear

How many times before teeing off or during a round have you had that sick feeling in your stomach? You know the one i’m talking about.   Maybe it’s before teeing off for an important round or a putt to win a 2 dollar nassau between you an your buddies…your palms are sweaty, your heart is racing and you hands are shaking.

What you do in this moment will make or break your success on the shot that follows…

Your only defense in this situation is having a solid pre-shot routine and to play the shot without any thoughts in your mind except hitting the target…not the 5 tips you read in Golf Digest this month.

 Having a set routine that you follow before each shot will help calm your nerves and allow you to do your best in those pressure packed situations.    Once you go through your routine, it’s time to pull he trigger WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT YOUR SWING!  The key to playing great shots under pressure is relying on your natural talents and playing golf automatically.   There is a place for working on your swing and thinkout about mechanics and that place is the practice range. 

So next time you are on the course and you feel those butterflys creeping in, take  breath, go through your routine, take one last look at your target and pull the trigger…You’re gonna like what you see…
